Challenge Bead
by Susan Jones

Susan Jones Designs

I've been lampworking for four years. My first lampworking class with Dustin Tabor and Stephanie Sersich was truly a life changing experience.  I quit my corporate technology job six months later to pursue a career as a full-time glass bead artist.  What an adventure!  I work out of my garage studio at my home in Minneapolis, MN.  I teach beginner and intermediate classes at the Bloomington Art Center.  My work and show schedule can be viewed on my web site: www.susanjonesdesigns.com

HOW DOES THE ART GLASS AND BEAD CHALLENGE WORK? Purchase this Challenge Bead from the Art Glass and Bead Show - at a discounted rate, I might add! Take that beautiful bead and create a wearable piece of art to be displayed and judged by your peers and participating vendors on Saturday of the Art Glass and Bead Show.

If you accept the Art Glass and Bead Challenge, you will create a wearable piece of artwork using the Challenge Bead and any other materials of your choice.
All entries need to be received by on or before Friday (Eve of the show).
Anyone who purchases a Challenge Bead is eligible to participate.
If you simply want to purchase the Challenge Bead for your collection, there is no obligation to participate in the challenge.
(it is a beautiful bead! I can't imagine passing it up!)

WHO WILL JUDGE THE CHALLENGE?
We will have two panels of judges this year for the Bead Challenge. You are quite familiar with the first panel judges...your peers. Everyone who attends the show on Saturday will vote for their favorite entry again this year. Their criteria has suprised many jewelry designers, because they are not judging technique or creativity, they are basing their approval on whether or not they would enjoy wearing it. This prize is considered the Popular Choice Award.

The second category is the Honorable Mention catagory with a professional panel of judges. The judges will be the vendors. They will be voting on which entry they find to be highly skilled, artisic and the most creative use of the Challenge Bead. We are calling it the Honorable Mention Award.

EACH WINNER WILL RECEIVE A $400 PRIZE BASKET!!

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I WON?
All of the ballots will be counted on Saturday night, and the winning entry will be on display Sunday at the show. If you are the winner, you may pick up your Prize Basket from the ticket counter. If you did not win, you may pick up your Art Glass and Bead Challenge Entry at any time before you leave the show. If you are not present on Sunday, we will mail your entry within 30 days. Creative Mode, LLC can not be held responsible for any damage or loss due to return delivery of the item.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE WINNING ENTRY?
The winning entry becomes the property of Creative Mode, LLC. The winning designer will also receive another Challenge Bead for their collection.
