A Frank Lloyd Wright inspired
2008 Art Glass and Bead Show
Challenge Bead
A BIG thanks to JC Herrell, who created the 2008 Challenge Bead.
Her inspiration was Madison's favorite architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.
She incorporated similar Frank Lloyd Wright design concepts such as hovering lines, interpenetrating shared spaces and simple shapes to create a bead with 3 views. Above you will see three unique views visible on the 2008 Challenge Bead.
The 35mm clear bead is embellished with a dusting of opaque white surface color detailed with finely engineered black lines and three primary spheres creating a work of art 'in the round'. JC's steady hand and fine tuned eye for design has certainly succeeded in creating the perfect Challenge Bead for our 2008 Madison show!

JC Herrell |

JC Herrell, born and raised in Wisconsin, has been a student of art since childhood. During her adolescence JC received formal art training from various instructors and local artists, as well as at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. In 1996, she sought something to say in her art by choosing to study philosophy at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. After college, JC spent several years as a corporate trainer and while in that career, began to feel both great stress and the need to melt glass. While investigating how to do that, she was lead to lampwork bead making by a local stained glass store. JC ordered the equipment, taught herself lampworking and has grown to love the endless possibilities in glass beads. In 2005, JC became a full time glass artist and is looking forward to a lifetime of exploring glass. |

HOW DOES THE ART GLASS AND BEAD CHALLENGE WORK? Purchase a Challenge Bead from the Art Glass and Bead Show - at a discounted rate, I might add! Take that beautiful bead and create a wearable piece of art to be displayed and judged by your peers on Saturday of the Art Glass and Bead Show.
If you accept the Art Glass and Bead Challenge, you will create a wearable piece of artwork using the Challenge Bead and any other materials of your choice.
All entries need to be received by 6pm on Friday (Eve of the show).
Anyone who purchases a Challenge Bead is eligible to participate.
If you simply want to purchase the Challenge Bead for your collection, there is no obligation to participate in the challenge. (it is a beautiful bead! I can't imagine passing it up!)
WHO WILL JUDGE THE CHALLENGE? Each guest who attends the Art Glass and Bead Show on Saturday will receive a ballot to vote on their favorite piece of wearable art. Voting will take place during show hours. Guests may only vote once. The entry that wins the popular vote will be awarded a $300 prize basket!
HOW WILL I KNOW IF I WON? All of the ballots will be counted on Saturday night, and the winning entry will be on display Sunday at the show. If you are the winner, you may pick up your Prize Basket from the ticket counter. If you did not win, you may pick up your Art Glass and Bead Challenge Entry at any time before you leave the show. If you are not present on Sunday, we will mail your entry within 30 days. Creative Mode, LLC can not be held responsible for any damage or loss due to return delivery of the item.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE WINNING ENTRY? The winning entry becomes the property of Creative Mode, LLC to be used strictly for marketing purposes for the following year - providing designer credits, of course! The winning entry will be auctioned off at the next Art Glass and Bead Show - with all proceeds going to the Designers charity of choice. The winning designer will also receive another Challenge Bead for their collection.
